Just north of the central City of London, Islington, has come a long way since The Angel, Islington first appeared in the board game of Monopoly. Its light blue location was then the second cheapest on the board after Pentonville Road (which is also in Islington) but its £100 houses have now become more like £500,000 or maybe double or quadruple that. Islington’s gardened, Georgian squares are the equal of any in the world.

But one thing has stayed the same - entertainment. For a couple of centuries and more, its theatres have staged everything from Houdini and Max Miller at the Finsbury Park Empire (which still opens nightly) to Shakespeare at the Eagle.
